2015 XC State Meet

11/10/2015

2015 XC All StateWhat a great day for West Lauderdale XC! Dewayne Partridge, Caroline Green, and Abigail Shelly came away with All-State honors. This was only the 2nd time WLXC history, as well as the 2nd time in two years, that the team has had 3 all-state runners.

Dewayne Partridge became only the 6th WLXC boy to be named All-State and only the 3rd boy to win multiple All-State honors (2013, 2015) in his career, joining Manuel Granados (2009, 2010) and Corey Rigdon (2004, 2005).

The boys team finished 14th out of 27 teams (top 52%), doing slightly better than last year’s 13th place out of 24 teams (54%). Ryan Edwards ran one of the best races of his career, finishing 27 places higher (73/186) than last year. On a day when times were at least 30-45 seconds slower than usual because of an extremely muddy course, Joey May finished faster (20:56, 86/186) than his 2014 performance (21:51/ 117th). And Bronson Harper continued his late season improvement, just missing the top 100 as a freshman (104/186).

Caroline Green (13/155) and Abigail Shelly (14/155) became two of only 7 WL girls to be named All-State and joined Tia Larsen-Calcano as the only girl multiple All-State winners in WL history.

The girls’ team matched last year’s 5th place finish, scoring 6 points lower overall. All 7 WL runners finished in the top 51%. Ainsley Ash had her best performance ever at a state meet finishing 19 places higher (35/155) than in 2014. Allison Shelly wins the consistency award, finishing 38th for the 2nd straight year. Depth was also much improved this year as Sarah Richards (48/155), Jade Temple (71/155) and AnnaLaura Campbell (80/155) performed better than last year’s 5th-7th girls (67th, 84th, and 90th). And although ‘runners passed’ is not an official stat, AnnaLaura Campbell would have been near the top, passing 75 runners over the last 3 miles.

All in all, a great finish to a great season. And now the off-season has officially begun. Start running!
